cannot create a connection with VisualStudio 2008 and SQLServer 2008

I have sqlserver 2008 installed on a windows xp server. I am trying to
connect to the database in visual studio. When I try to add a connection
the instance of the server is not found. I am able to view the database
using the SQL Server Management Studio.
any help would be much appreciated

Please let me know if the following scenerio is technically feasible.
There is an active/passive cluster, users databases are mirrored.
Mirror server has its own active/passive cluster.

Connection Strangeness

We have the following in the hosts file
10.10.9.2 lvac03dmz
10.10.9.20 lvac09dmz
10.10.9.2 dmzserver
We can connect to the database (same on both .2,.20 getting ready for
migrating to new server we want to change the alias dmzserver in the
future to .20) using any of the following in the connection string

Connecting with SQL Server Express 2005 when Wireless is active

Hi all.
I have a strange problem.
On a laptop I installed SQL Server express 2005.
If I'm not connected to a LAN, or if I'm connected via "copper", I can use
SQL Server through MS Access. If I open a connectio to a Wireless LAN, I
can't use my local DB. I use a trusted connection on TCP port 1433. Note

purposes. I have found transactional replication to work best for realtime
reporting, source used for user transactions and target for reporting. I have

Oracle publisher

I have successfully created an Oracle publisher in SQL 2008. woohoo!
It's kind of a groovy thing, being able to set an oracle db to be a
publisher.
The bad part...one of the bad parts, is that I cannot find the objects I
want to publish. In my oracle instance, I have a schema named ZAPHOD (not
really but ...) and it has a user named ZAPHOD. The user is the owner and

Near realtime sync of Sql Server and Sql Compact 3.5 in the real world?

I'm building a mobile application, whereby 10-15 mobile devices will
be connected via a local Wifi network to an SQL Server 2008
installation on a dedicated server.
Our database contains around 50,000 records in one table (very simple,
just 10 small varchar columns) with a primary key. These records are

Cannot connect to SQL client over VPN

I am running SQL Server 2008 at the office on Windows Server 2003.
This server connects to the internet via a router. I am running SQL
Express 2008 on my laptop on Windows 7. When I am home, I connect
wirelessly to the internet via a router.
When both computers are in the office, there are no connectivity

site not communicating with database

Hello,
I have a website on remote server developed using asp.net. I am using MS SQL
2005. My question is that the remote site was communicating with database
well for few days ago but suddenly it stopped communicating with database and
shows me msg. like Server was not found. However I know that there is

On the Instance Configuration screen you can set the Instance Root directory
which appears to default to the C: drive. Should this be a local drive?
